What are cookies?

A cookie is a small text file that a Website server installs in the browser of your computer or mobile device when you visit a Website.

Information is stored in this small text file, for instance your preferences if you use a Website. When you visit the Website again at a later stage, this cookie will automatically be resent to the Website. In this way the Website recognises your browser, allowing information such as your preferences to be recalled.

Cookies generally ensure easier and faster interaction between the visitor and the Website and help the visitor to browse from one part of a Website to another. Cookies can also be used to improve the content of a Website.

Cookies usually have an expiry date. Some cookies are, for instance, automatically deleted when you close your browser, while other cookies remain on your computer for a longer time, sometimes till you delete them manually.

Why do we use cookies?

Functional cookies

The NISSE uses Drupal in order to update the content of its Website. The software uses functional cookies. Functional cookies are cookies that are strictly necessary for the proper functioning of the Website.

Analytical cookies

The NISSE uses Matomo for analytical purposes. This analytical tool places cookies that we use to measure Website visits (traffic). For instance: how many visitors on the Website, which Webpages were read, how long it takes to download a Webpage, ...

We only use this information to improve the content of our Website or as an approach for a new campaign concerning a specific issue that arouses interest.

Marketing cookies

The NISSE uses Hotjar to better analyse the behaviour and actions of visitors on the website. For example: what do visitors click on, how do visitors scroll through a page; how far do visitors scroll on a page, ….

We only use this information to optimize the user experience and to improve the content of the website.
